Brisson of Greenwich Sets New Diving Record

Connor Brisson, a senior at Greenwish High School, set a new record on his way to victory at the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) diving championship, boys’ division, at Westhill High School in Stamford Wednesday night.

Brisson amassed 529.6 poinConnor Brissonts, a new record over the previous 486.66 set way back in 1986, which set a smile on the face of Kevin Thompson, his diving coach.

After one of Brisson’s dives, Thompson was seen putting his arms in the air.

Dan Schott, a senior at Wilton High School, trailed behind Brisson with 407.55. Jake Bowtell of Darien followed close with 399.15 points. Continue reading

N.C.A.A. Accuses Tennessee of Rules Violations

Bruce PearlThe NCAA says both Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl and former football coach Lane Kiffin committed recruiting violations and failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance of NCAA rules within their programs.

Following its 22-month investigation of the athletic program, the NCAA notified Tennessee of a dozen rules violations by the coaches, their assistants and the university itself in a letter released by the school on Wednesday. Kiffin, who is now at Southern California, received a separate notice of the allegations against him.

Tennessee’s baseball program was included in the investigation, but was not accused of any violations. Continue reading

Cavs offer job to homeless man

With a deep, refined voice, Ted Williams simply asked for help to get off the streets.

He’s been heard. CavaliersLeft homeless after his life and career were ruined by drugs and alcohol, Williams has been offered a job by the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers and is being pursued by NFL Films for possible work. He and his compelling tale became an online sensation after The Columbus Dispatch posted a clip of Williams demonstrating his voiceover skills by the side of the road.

“This has been totally, totally amazing,” Williams said in a phone interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday, his voice choking with emotion. “I’m just so thankful. God has blessed me so deeply. I’m getting a second chance. Amazing.”

Williams was contacted Wednesday by the Cavaliers, who have offered him a position that could include announcing work at Quicken Loans Arena, the team’s downtown facility. Williams said the team has offered him a two-year contract and said they would pay his living expenses. Continue reading
